For the first time we decided, the daring (or crazy?) Watch the ice floats. So we did together us on new year's day on the way to the Burhaver dike - with about 2,000 other viewers! It was cold - air temperature of 2 ° felt much colder and the wind drove the tears in the eyes of one. According to the announcement of Peter Diekelmann, who provided with his mobile stage atmosphere, the water of the lagoon was not much warmer: just 2 ° C - brrrr!
So we moved our circles around the lagoon then, to keep us warm slightly up to the start. The volunteers of the DLRG had fully well packed hands to keep the float area free of ice - the floating ice floes were well 6 cm thick and had to be cleared again and again and crushed to make way for the first swimmers of the new year.
Finally it was then where. After presentation of all 46 hard-nosed swimmer on the stage, it was said: out of the clothes and jump into the swimming trunks / the Bikini! So that at least the head remained warm, some Pudelmützen were, others had umbrellas in hand (was sure little helpful in the freezing cold - but funny looked). Led it were himself of Neptune (Manfred Schmidthüsen), who then oversaw the spectacle from the shore;-). The swimmer in the floods pounced with much shouting and some of the "old timers" did even a few laps in the icy water! Then it went with krebsrotem body into it in the protective tent - in part at a fairly leisurely pace and barefoot! And we with ice cold feet and doddering from cold have quickly the distance for us at home only once again heated up.
Hats off to brave swimmers! You can get so quickly determined no cold - if they have survived the new year's swim because!
A Downer - and perhaps a suggestion for next year: provides but please ensure that there is to drink sufficient warm for children! The wine has good durchgewärmt the great and a warm cocoa or kids punch instead of ice-cold soda would have tasted the children surely better! With a warming soup from the great or ' some perhaps even after swimming would have remained somewhat longer ner bratwurst and warm cocoa;-)
